more scary stuff

I had a dream last night that I’d just had the baby – which was beautiful, but a white baby, not remotely Asian – and I’d slept through delivery.  My doctor, Dr. Phil, was still hanging around.  He offered to help me to the bathroom saying, “if a nurse can do it, I can do it.”  I had only been in the hospital a couple of hours, so Tom wasn’t there yet.

We had violent, violent thunderstorms here overnight.  I’ve never heard anything so incredible.  I thought the house may come down on top of us.  It was CRAZY!  Super loud.

So, yesterday the doorbell rang.  And they knocked a pretty friendly knock right after, like “Shave and a Haircut.”  I have a tendency to just ignore it, but I was curious so I got up from the couch and walked over to the door and looked super-quietly through the peep hole.  Jasmine was barking really loud and deep.  I saw a lady in scrubs heading back to her car.  She was almost at the car by the time I got to the door, so she didn’t hesitate, or wait at the door at all.  In the same amount of time it took me to cross the room, she had just about crossed the yard.  I figured she was leaving flyers.  They drove away.  Tom got home from work about two hours later and the neighbors across the street said people were walking around and around our house.  One of the boys saw the unfamiliar car parked outside and watched two husky black ladies, one in scrubs, coming out from our backyard.  He told his mom.  She came out and  just stood in her driveway, arms crossed, and when she saw them she said “Hello,” and they went back to their car and just sat there.  The little boy said he watched them get in and out of their car like 5 times.

So, today I’m terrified, but totally ready to play the part of the crazy recluse and answer the door with a sword in my hand.  Fortunately, we have plans to be at home for the next several weeks so we can keep an eye on things.

scared

As terrified as I am about this whole thing, most people I know that have done it have done it more than once.  If it were that awful, no one would have two.  Right?  RIGHT?!?!

good day

I’m feeling pretty good.

I have a list of grievances:

  • sinus infection
  • still some morning sickness
  • TWO cold sores

But overall, I am feeling good.  And when I look at the list like that, it’s like… oh, so really there’s not too much to complain about.  I sat out in the sun for a couple hours on Saturday with no protection waiting for Smarty Pants to walk across the stage at Bridgewater’s graduation, but surprisingly the twinge  of sunburn disappeared overnight.  I wonder if the sunburn factor throughout my life had to do with my Vitamin D deficiency.  When I went to the Charlottesville Wellness Center to officially test for pregnancy as well as check my thyroid, Ananda said I should be taking about 4000 IU of vitamin D a day.  Aggressive.  But anyhoo… severe sunburn averted.  (It’s possible the sun contributed to the cold sores, but it’s whatevs, I hate me some burning flesh.)

Tom has been AWESOME here lately.  I can’t get enough of him.  Last night we left Charlottesville at, I want to say, midnight?  Rolled up to our house in Charlotte at around 7am.  LoL.  It was a long night.  Nothing happened, no flat tires or anything dramatic.  We just had to stop and sleep at the state line.  Gotta love that Tommy.  He did it all, drove all the way.  I slept and slept and slept and slept.  Today he came home for lunch and we couldn’t keep our hands off of each other.  I am happy to say he has fully recovered from “The Beanbag Incident” at Haley’s graduation party.  Cap’n Sexy Pants officially set my ultrasound appointment for June 8 at 1 pm, and my appointment with Dr. Wolanski is at 2:10 the same day.  So, Happy Birthday, Joy!  For your bday, you’ll find out whether your new baby cousin’ll be a he or a she.

So, (grossly) the cold sore has burst and scabbed over, my sinus infection has vastly improved, morning sickness down about 50%, LOVE Tom, and I’m starting to look pregnant.  I like it.  I think I’m cute.  Not about to post pics of a bare belly, but I think I look pretty adorable.  Had a GREAT weekend.  Great weekend.

siiiiiiiiiiiiiiiick!!!!

I picked up a sinus infection on Sunday evening.  Since Monday morning, I’ve felt like I’m dying.  I’m trying really hard not to be all fussy and whiny.  I’ve just been totally immobilized.  Yesterday I put in a prayer request at McLean and on facebook.  I think it’s paying off.  It might be coincidence.  It might be a placebo.  However, today I can taste a little bit and the congestion has moved out of my face (for the most part) and into my lungs.  I like it there.  I can handle it.  Just cough it up and spit it out, you know?  As opposed to blowing, and blowing, and blowing my nose to no avail.

Sunday will put us at 19 weeks, juuuuust about half way.  I don’t know if I’ll be around to post over the weekend.  Lots of stuff going on!  Haley is graduating from Bridgewater College on Saturday.  Sunday is Mother’s Day.   I have tons of crap to wrap.  I have to pack the truck.  I’d like to make some progress on cleaning up the house that I destroyed while I was sick.  (Imagine an atomic bomb constructed entirely out of tissues exploding in the middle of your living room, with high levels of radiation spreading to your bedroom as well.)

But here I am writing instead of doing.  I guess that’s my cue.  Bottom line, I’ve been sick, and fussy and haven’t enjoyed it.

Also of note, I haven’t put on any weight.  I am certainly carrying it differently, but I haven’t gained yet.   If feels normal, just feels like it did when I had the cyst.  I have to remind myself there’s a little critter in there.

Time to go!

nothing to report

For the most part, I’ve got nothing to report.  BUT… when I say nothing, I mean nothing.  Very, very little nausea today.  Yesterday I did have that kind of hacking cough that transforms into gagging halfway through.  Today, I woke up, brushed my teeth and didn’t snack until lunch… with no nausea.  Overall, feeling pretty good.

Took my vitamins like a good girl, and started to feel bad.  So, we’ll see how that goes.

Wouldn’t you know it, Cinco de Mayo falls on a Saturday the one year I can’t have a margarita.  Cruel, cruel world.  Not that I’m a big drinker, but I could seriously go for one at the moment, particularly one of those giant ones from Guadalajara in Charlottesville.

Just have to wait until 2018.  Baby La will be about 5 and can watch Mommy get her fiesta on.
